back again

dammit. i ain't been here for a minute. it's been a while, but i've been VE-HERRY busy. last week? i went to css on monday, borat on thursday, had a bizarre drinking session that was planned in the name of art but became anything but on friday, saturday night was spent in the guinness storehouse seeing djs diplo and carl craig and then sunday was tom findlay. and i'm very tired now.

so css were as crazy as would be expected. the crowd was clearly off its collective head, and while that meant i was shoved around a lot (i started off about 2 from the front on the right facing the stage, ended up further back on the right hand side) at least it wasn't a crowd of folded-arm bloggers. ahem. they were only on for about 45 minutes, but what do you expect from a one-album'd band? afterwards i went to crawdaddy and drank some disgusting lqds. they're like wkds only cheap. eugh.

then borat was, well, ok i laughed and everything, but i don't by any means think it's worthy of the unanimous praise lavished upon it in recent weeks. nope. no. not a chance. it troubles me. i can't really put my finger on it, like into words... but as we discussed this morning, for one thing, in making jokes out of all these various different things he's doing little more than confirming their unsayability, and proves himself to be a very conservative comedian.

friday, well i won't bother. i drank a bottle of wine and moped around in someone's apartment. right...

saturday in the storehouse was pretty great. free pints, free food, and diplo. right there in front of me. last time i saw him, at pitchfork in july, i was this far away.

this time, however, i was lucky enough to be right up there, watching the man hard at work. what a dude...

his set was, as expected, pretty awesome. around the world, blue monday, melo do tabaco, standing in the way of control (soulwax remix), diplo rhythm (or should i saw percao?!), a bit patchy, bucky done gun... and that's just the stuff i recognised! carl craig was pretty cool, even if i didn't recognise any of it, and they made him finish pretty early.

and then tom findlay was cool on sunday. superstylin' into erol's glam racket ff mix. then solid groove's this is sick. which it is. although we had to leave early. ah well...

monday was tiring, but it was kinda cool, as i received two items in the post - my coldcut sound mirrors dvd/cd set and todd solondz's storytelling - a film unavailable in ireland it appears. well it's quite like his other films, in that it elicits the same sort of nauseous disgust at the horrors of the world as he sees it. as peter biskind says, he makes feel-bad films. and that's why i love him!

anyway, now i must go write that bergman essay...
