intriguing...

saw this over on bodytonic. techno label get physical are about to release final song, an album of pieces chosen by musicians to, well, i think they sum it up better than i can.

Coming in February 2009, 'Final Song' goes to the very heart of music's spiritual dimension by asking a number of musicians to select their ideal last song, either to serenade their final moments or to memorialize them after the fact.

The participating artists deserve to be commended for their openness: they're responding to one of the most personal questions one could ask. (Several of those approached declined to take part; taboos are taboos, after all.)

this is tracklist, taken from bodytonic. personally, i don't know what i'd pick. part of my thinks unkle's lonely soul, but that's a bit morbid. another part of me thinks all of boards of canada's beautiful in a beautiful place out in the country, but then again, i've listened to that so often i feel i might be neglecting something else out there. at the end of the day, who knows? it's not like any of us will really have a choice!

interesting stuff

oh my

fool's gold and rcrl lbl are really spoiling us. the fool's gold blog tells us that nacho lovers' genre-bending remix of pase rock's get money kids is up on rcrd lbl, as well as a remix of miike snow by treasure fingers.

in other news, check out the latest bodytonic podcast - it's a live recording from nathan fake at dublin's twisted pepper. i finally hit up this spot over christmas, and it's exactly what you want from a club. dark and dirty (though with very little actual dirt to be found). worth a visit. and then some.

tidings of great joy

last month röyksopp came back to us with a free download of their new song happy birthday, at various turns dark and uplifting. and in 3/4. well now with the new year they bring news of their new album, 'junior'. it's out on march 23rd, and the first single, happy up here (also track one on the album), will be available on march 9th. let the excitement build!

oh and here's the text from their site. typos ahoy!

Hello world!

Phil Lynott once so eloquently said "The boys are back in town", and never before have those words felt more accurate than now – for us at least. Every once in a while we surface to share our music and shed some light in an otherwise bleak reality. And that time is soon upon us, Ladies & Gents. Our third installment, called "Junior", will be out on the 23rd of March 2009.

Sounds self centered and pompous, you say? Yes indeed! We're so confident because this time around we've worked with the likes of Robyn and Lykke Li, as well as old time friends Anneli Drecker and Karin Dreijer - hence our enthusiasm!

Below you'll find an intriguing tracklist over the songs featured on the new album. Oh, and make sure to get our new song "Happy Birthday" (for free) - a fun little piece we've made in shameless celebration of ourselves (our birthday was on the 15th of December).

Until then, dear friends...

Best,
Señor B + Señor B

and i'm back!

cousin cole first came to my attention for his mind-blowing remix of timbaland's way i are last year. taking the main riff from marva whitney's unwind yourself, he gave the brooding, almost sinister track a completely new meaning. one of straight up FUNK. then recently he turned his hand to kanye's love lockdown, turning another brooding warble-fest into a disco anthem (check it on his myspace), before revisting champion from 2007's graduation, giving it an acid house slant, both slow and fast.

now he's back, tackling the lonely island's jizz in my pants. you might know this song from the hilarious snl sketch. i don't pay much attention to youtube, but this got the most laughs out of me all year, and the song is pretty catchy too. just don't sing it round your mum. anyway, he's given it a proper house makeover, so it'll fit in better with proper club music. enjoy. and if i don't hear this blowing up spots in 09, i won't be happy.
