i offer you this. it has been posted on pitchfork, for your streaming pleasure, but this one's for keeps. heart it races, the newest from australian sextet architecture in helsinki, is due out next month, and it precedes their third album places like this, as well as coinciding with their world tour. i for one am ecstatic about seeing them again on may 25th, having had a fantastic time at their gig in the village last year. what is even more exciting is that this year they're playing tripod, a far superior venue.

as for the song itself, it seems a little bit like do the whirlwind pt II, with similar chord changes, but as an opening single i imagine it's only a teaser for the delectable eccentricty that no doubt awaits...

back in 97 and 98 i used to listen to the hip-hop show on tuesday evenings on Jazz FM, introduced me to some great gems, particularly a track called me & my crazy world by the lost boyz, an honest yet playful rap about being caught up between two equally fantastic ladies. i hadn't thought of it in years, until recently i saw someone on the low bee forum referring to their own "lost boyz" situation.. i listened to it again tonight, it's still great...

ok so i'm not exactly up on southern rap, mainly because i don't really like it. i'm not particularly fond of that crunk style beat and the less-than-ephemeral lyrics, but i suppose i should really widen my frame of reference. beyond outkast and goodie mob i've never really found anything to my liking down thurr, but what can you do. diplo's newest track on his myspace is so many shrimp, his re-edit of thee 6 mafia's 2000 track sippin' on some syrup. "we eat so many shrimp, i got iodine poisining." i guess that's the kind of profundity that turned me off southern rap... anyway, this edit is kinda cool. nice effects and guitar licks, vocal samples from shrimp fishers... cool stuff really.
