i've had a listen to trizzy's fabriclive cd. hmm. some great tunes but lacks a wow factor. except for skepta's sweet mother and the way he flips from the chase into paris that is. anyway infinity +1 is out and it seems much more coherent. in that he doesn't just try to jam everything in. he's still that dude anyway.

so trizzy's infinity +1 is on its way, and he's only gone and dropped an eight minute teaser over here. basically it's a whizz through the whole mix, but even so it's ace. hold on and pocket piano are a match made in heaven. excitement.
i haven't blogged in a while. there are a few reasons - i haven't been in the mood (personal reasons) and i simply haven't had the time. that's going to change - dammit i'll make time.
today i was going to blog about a-trak's new mix infinity +1 (april 14). it was mentioned on both his own and the fool's gold blogs, and i was typing up my thoughts when i was called away "on business" - newspaper debriefs, an interview with a clairvoyant, a talk from the Daily Telegraph's Mark Skipworth... so by the time i got back to a computer i figured it was already old news, in internet terms. well anyway, i've some thoughts on the matter. the tracklist features a few gems (trizzy's remix of sébastien tellier's kilometer, a new kid sis jam) and a few tracks i've never heard of. it looks like a straight up mix album, so not exactly on the same lines as dirty south dance. so who knows what it'll turn out like... that said when i saw read the collision of joakim's pocket piano remix and midnight juggernauts' shadows i heard the two slide seamlessly together in my head. that i dig. who knows what his fabriclive mix will turn out like (also april, says their site)?!
i did a mix for my friend dj adam f's show breakanomics which will be broadcast this sunday between 11pm and 1am. lots of other breaks-related goodies to watch out for too. to be honest i'm not that familiar with the breaks scene, beyond a few stanton warriors cds, so i decided to make a short dub/ghetto mix, with snatches of european and american scenes. and more. while i'm on the subject, the show has been nominated for a breakspoll award, so get over there and get votin'.

picked up a load of new cds lately - diplo's comp (at last - must say i'm not happy about the 128kbps mp3s that come with), steinski's retrospective, that crazy in order to dance cd, an awesome mix from psycho pab, the unkle redux cd (of course!) and, at last, the blade runner triple soundtrack. having been busy and not well and whatnot i haven't had a chance to take everything in. so it's with great pleasure that i can say that this third disc, of music composed by vangelis for BR's 25th anniversary, is both warm and fuzzy.
having mentioned joakim earlier i feel it's only right that i mention his set, featured on the shock podcast. i haven't had a chance to listen to it yet (see above) but i imagine it's a banger.
i write for analogue every monday. well, by every monday i mean before i go to bed in the am of every tuesday. it's a bad habit, but there is some consistency to it, unfortunate or otherwise. so i figured i'd write here every tuesday. at least. i just need good content dammit.
i've been trying to do a mix these past few days, along with a host of other commitments. i always find it hard to do a mix when i have other commitments, it's so much easier to do them when you can literally spend hours deliberating over what tracks to play together, even to the finer details of what bar to introduce the enxt track and at what level - banging from the start, slow fade in or somewhere in between? i tried to do a momentous two hour mix a few months ago, working at it night by night and piecing it all together. i got to an hour and fifteen minutes before i got angry and gave up. i've reached a stage where the best mixes i do are just under an hour - any longer and they lose focus and i lose interest.
the other week i put up two mixes but blogger took them down. boourns. so i doubt there'll be much of an outlet on the internet for such things other than through email and facebook messages. ho-hum. anyway, some of the tracks floating my boat right now are as follows: a-trak's remix of bounce. dj rob 3's the chase. laidback luke's rave edit of be. actually that one deserves a special mention. i heard be months ago, then i heard the segaversion, which i loved, but then, when i belatedly started listening to ayres' wmc mix, more drugs, i heard this rave edit. and sat so perfectly in the mix, just coming in at the wonky fade-out part of surkin's white knight two, that i couldn't help but love it. there was another track in that mix that's been getting a lot of love from myself, larry heard's the sun can't compare. it's just beautiful, there's no other way of describing it. the same can be said for the supermayerremix of hot chip's one pure though - they isolate the bassline of this pumping tune and turn it into a languid, delicate masterpiece.
